Conspiracy! that’s the only explanation that I can come up with as to why LSU is playing Alabama for the mythical (and I underline mythical) national championship of college football. Simply put, Alabama does not belong in this game. If they were not good enough to win their conference, then they have no place in the title game.

The other problem that I have with this “system,” is that it is completely subjective. We have a bunch of college coaches voting on who are the best teams in the country. How can they objectively choose? They can’t!!!

The only way to do it right is with a playoff system. That way it is settled on the field, not in the polls…

It is really a shame that the Veteran’s Committee took so long to elect Ron Santo to the Hall of Fame. it should have been done while he was alive, not after he died.

Thoughts about March Madness

Well, Cinderella left the ball early last night. Congrats to UConn on an incredible month of basketball. Here’s what I liked and did not like:

What I liked:
All of the upsets.

VCU – Although I was in the majority in believing that VCU should not have received a bid, it was refreshing to see them make it to the final four.

Another Mid-Major playing for the title.

What I did not like:

All of those TV timeouts. Every time a game started to have some flow, it was interrupted by those damn commercials. It seemed as though there was a break every two minutes. This has to be fixed soon. It is almost unwatchable

FIFA and the Referees

What has been a marvelous World Cup has been marred by some very questionable calls, or non-calls by the Referees. It is inconceivable that in this day and age, FIFA refuses to consider using state of the art technology to enhance their game. Of this I am certain; if some sort of instant replay was in use, we would be able to resolve the injustices that have been administered to England, Mexico and the United States. So, what do we do?

At the very least, additional referees should be added so that the field of play is adequately covered. The NFL has a tough time and they employ 8 officials! So, start with 8 and adjust accordingly.

Next, introduce instant replay for any goal scoring play. If a “challenge” system, like the one deployed by the NFL, was used, much of the controversy would disappear.

Finally, it is time to penalize all of the “flopping” that occurs. Too many times, a potential scoring play is in progress only to see it interrupted by a player faking an injury. If we really want to see more scoring, then this must be removed from the game once and for all.
